Brother MFC-L2740DW Review
Why this printer
After ca. 10 years of use, it has proven to be quick, frugal, and easy to trust for routine document work.
Setup and build
The 2.7-inch color touchscreen walks you through Wi-Fi or Ethernet setup in under 10 minutes. At 11 kg it is heavier than an inkjet but compact enough for a shelf, and the paper path feels sturdy with no flexing trays.
Print and scan quality
Text documents are razor sharp with consistent density. Charts and invoices hold up thanks to precise line rendering, though this mono engine is not meant for high fidelity graphics.
Costs and maintenance
In the 10 years, I only bought new paper. After about 2,500 pages the toner is at 20%, while the drum still shows 80% of its lifetime remaining.
Verdict
If you need dependable monochrome output with scanning, and modern connectivity, the MFC-L2740DW remains a smart pick. Competing models add color or larger screens but at higher cost. As long as color output is not required, this Brother delivers everything a busy home office needs.
Recommendation
As the L2740DW seems no longer available, I’d recommend the current model L2827DW which hopefully is as reliable and economical as the old one.
