SMALLRIG AC-10 Review
Why this mount
I needed a simple way to use my iPhone as a webcam for all-day Teams calls on my Mac. I don’t want a bulky microphone or camera in my view; I prefer an unobstructed screen and a tidy desk. The AC-10 is a magnetic phone holder that mounts on the standard 1/4-inch tripod thread (German “Gewinde” → English “thread”).
Setup and use
I have it mounted below my RØDE microphone and attach the iPhone when I need it. This gives me a far better picture than the MacBook camera or the Razer Kiyo Pro I used before, while keeping the setup subtle and clean.
What I like
- The 1/4"-20 thread means it mounts to standard arms, clamps, and tripods without adapters.
- Minimal, unobtrusive hardware that keeps the desk visually clean.
What I don’t like
- The magnet is weak. I have dropped my phone several times from light touches to the mount/microphone assembly. This undermines trust in daily use.
Verdict
Great idea and form factor, but the weak magnet is a deal-breaker for me. If you need a dependable mount for an iPhone webcam, look for a stronger magnetic clamp or a mechanical phone holder. Rating: 3/5.
Recommendation
If you try the AC-10, be cautious with heavier phones or cases and avoid bumping the rig. Otherwise, consider a tougher magnetic mount or a non-magnetic clamp for better security. (Affiliate link TBD.)
